Boise Kei Shin Kan June 2014 Newsletter

Hey everyone,

The new organization for the Striking Post is done, it’s archived by year now in a drop down menu on the right side of the website. Three years of posts now! You can also see quick links by topic on the left side of the page. We are continuing to do some new layout things here and there to the site, if you have any recommendations feel free to mention them.

Also, the Striking Post this month ties in well with not only adding new people to the dojo, but also, relating to how you never really know where karate will take you, or, where it will go. Toyoma could have never known that a man he trained in karate would train another man, who would one day, be involved in the news incident below. I guess that’s why we train all the time, you never know what or how you might need karate, or how it might help. In the story below, three men went into a fight. One got arrested, one got treated for injuries, and one quietly went back to work, completely unharmed. The difference? Karate.

Sensei Espinoza Recognized by Boise Police Department for Assisting Downed Officer

This month, the Boise Police Department held a ceremony to recognize and thank Sensei Isaac Espinoza for his fearless intervention to help a police officer who was taken down by a suspect during an arrest. The story was all over the news, yet most people do not know who the man was that stepped in to help the officer. But, we do! The situation was even more complicated because the assailant, though over 6 feet tall and 210 pounds, was underage. In the end, the attacker was arrested and charged, the police officer was treated for his injuries, and Isaac grabbed his glasses and went back to work.

From the certificate:
“…security officer Isaac Espinoza assisted SRO Detective Kane wiht a violent subject who was resisting arrest. Seeing the Detective Kane was struggling to get control and the suspent was punching Detective Kane, Isaac fully committed to help in the incident. Isaac was also attacked, punched in the face, and had his glasses ripped off by the suspect. These violent actions by the suspect had no effect on Isaac’s courageous actions and he was instrumental in ending the incident…Detective Kane and the Boise Police Department are proud to recognize his actions.”

The certificate was awarded during a ceremony with the Boise Police, and signed by police Chief Masterson and Mayor Beiter.
