February 2014 TRUE TO YOURSELF

This above all: To thine own self be true
and it must follow; as the night the day
Thou canst not be false to any man”
William Shakespeare, Hamlet

TRUE TO YOURSELF

Be true to yourself…. by keeping to what you know , all the hours of training and practicing a punch…use it!  When you get down to it the thing that really matters is what you did to protect yourself. That’s the idea of constant  repetition of techniques, to get your mind and body prepared.  Use the first adrenalin rush, instead of feeling shock and confused to what is happening, and being scared or nervous, use that rush of energy to attack. Your body is helping you by flooding all your senses, and muscles with blood. Go with it and move.  Go back to your training use what technique that is needed  and do it.

Be true to yourself….in the way you train.  Try to correct your techniques and pushing the body to make  it the strongest and fastest it can be.  Not just going through the movements, but by concentrating on each technique and using all of your mind and body.  Find the best way to train for yourself.  Train with  techniques that are best  for your body and practice them until they become your own.

Be true to yourself….know your weakness,  This is the hardest for all of us, we all know what we can’t do but by denying the truth is the worst thing we can do in a self defense situation.  If you try to do a kick that you haven’t mastered in the dojo you sure won’t be able to do it on the street. Turn your weakness into strengths, that is the karate way.

Be true to yourself….. By knowing what you won’t take from someone (the line in the sand). What really matters is that our training is the only thing that stands between us, and the bad guy. To know yourself is most of the battle.  Training is the way to learn about yourself, and to keep you true to yourself.

“Cowards die many times before their death;
  The valiant never taste of death but once,
  of all the wonders that I yet have heard,
  it seems to me most strange that men should fear;
  seeing that death, a necessary end,
  will come when it will come.”
     William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

see you in the dojo
